2. CNAE’s Core Sodium-Ion Battery Products at the Exhibition

Originating from the CNAE Laboratory at the Cambridgeshire Innovation Centre in the UK, China Sodium-Ion Battery Group was founded in 2014. Its core team consists of top researchers from the University of Cambridge and international industrial elites. Focusing on sodium-ion cell production and power/energy storage product solutions, the company continuously promotes the commercial application of sodium-ion battery technology in power and energy storage fields through its trinity model of "Cambridge Think Tank + Shenzhen Commercialization + Yangzhou Smart Manufacturing".
Three core sodium-ion battery products were showcased:
(1) Sodium-Ion Cells
  • Energy Density Leap: Adopting full-tab technology, CNAE’s sodium-ion cells achieve an energy density of 120-145Wh/kg for polyanion compounds (industry average: 90-110Wh/kg) and 167Wh/kg for layered oxides.

  • Ultra-Long Lifespan & High-Rate Charge/Discharge: Single cells retain 70% capacity after 7,000-8,000 full charge-discharge cycles; support 5C fast charging and 10C fast discharging (capacity retention rate ≥80%); sustain 15C continuous discharge and 20C instantaneous discharge (10 seconds).

  • Wide Temperature Range: Operates normally at -45℃~70℃. CNAE’s new 280 blade cell, a semi-solid sodium battery product, can run at full power at -30℃.

  • Punched Current Collector Technology: Using punched aluminum foil, the current collector thickness is reduced to 8um (industry average for sodium-ion batteries: 14um), improving ion transport efficiency, increasing electrode-electrolyte contact, reducing weight, and helping to enhance battery energy density.

  • Application Scope: Widely used in electric tricycles, two-wheelers, battery swap applications, and energy storage scenarios (e.g., grid-side and user-side energy storage). It has broad application prospects in scenarios requiring high low-temperature performance.

(2) Sodium-Ion PACK
  • CNAE’s sodium-ion power battery is specifically designed for two-wheel/three-wheel electric vehicles, with core advantages of high safety, ultra-durability, and wide temperature adaptability.

  • Adopting automotive-grade cell technology and an innovative structure to prevent thermal runaway, it supports ultra-fast charging and delivers excellent low-temperature endurance. Relying on full-process digital intelligent manufacturing and an intelligent management system, it achieves automated production. Equipped with an intelligent BMS protection system and passing multiple safety certifications, it maintains high stability and long cycle life even under complex working conditions.

  • This sodium-ion battery solution offers high energy density, low cost, and sustainable resources, adapting to multiple scenarios such as urban-rural commuting, providing users with an economical, environmentally friendly, and all-weather reliable power option.

(3) Long-Cycle, High-Safety Energy Storage Cells
CNAE Sodium-Ion Megawatt Charging & Energy Storage Integrated Cabinet
  • Specifically developed to solve the traditional problem of separated charging and energy storage, it realizes flexible power conversion through a bidirectional converter.

  • Its highly integrated design allows a single device to complete both energy storage and charging simultaneously. Compared with split-type equipment, it reduces space occupation by over 60% and achieves a charge-discharge cycle efficiency of over 90%.

  • Features high and low-temperature performance, with a charge-discharge temperature range of -20℃~65℃ and stable safety performance.

  • The device has a charge-discharge response time of only a few seconds and a fully enclosed IP54 protection design to ensure safe and stable operation. Equipped with an intelligent energy management system, it can dynamically adjust charge-discharge strategies.

  • Whether in commercial parks, residential communities, or highway service areas, this efficient and integrated energy solution can effectively alleviate peak electricity pressure, improve renewable energy absorption rates, and meet the power management needs of diverse scenarios.

3. Technological Innovations & Systematic Advantages of Sodium-Ion Energy Storage Systems

  • Ultra-Temperature Difference Operation with String-Type Architecture: The sodium-ion energy storage system adopts a modular string-type architecture, supporting flexible expansion to meet centralized energy storage needs through parallel connection. Through the design of "material innovation + system temperature control synergy", it achieves dual optimization of efficient operation in a wide temperature range and energy loss reduction.

  • Doubled Virtual Power Distribution Capacity: The architecture realizes virtual capacity expansion through intelligent regulation and improves grid peak-shaving capacity via multi-level BMS collaborative control. Under 5C-10C high-rate charge-discharge, the system’s auxiliary loss is reduced to less than 5%, and the high charge-discharge rate achieves ultra-low system auxiliary loss.

  • Safe, Reliable, and Triple Fire Protection: Sodium-ion batteries ensure safety through triple safety prevention and control technologies (thermal stability optimization, 0V storage characteristics, and flame-retardant/explosion-proof materials):

    • No secondary combustion of cells: Adopting "polyanion-layered oxide" composite cathode technology, the risk of thermal runaway is extremely low, and cells do not re-ignite after combustion.

    • Intelligent fire protection system: Real-time monitors battery status and effectively inhibits thermal diffusion through electrolyte compatibility design.
